In this 4 part series learn practices & new perspectives to help you develop and connect to the steadiness that exists within you.

What you GAIN:

  • the skills to identify and strengthen your “resources” (both within you & outside of you)

  • how to use your body, breath & awareness to manage anxiety and overwhelm, and bring yourself back to center

  • the confidence to know what to do when your system won’t “relax”

  • a supportive setting in which you can ask questions and explore what works for you

FAQs

  • Most importantly, you, just as you are!
You’ll also need enough uncluttered space for you to sit or lie down in for some sessions, as well as:
    - comfy clothes you can move in
    - a cushion/pillow
    - a chair
    - writing material: pen, paper, notebook, blank paper (no lines)
    - colored pens/pencils
    - a yoga mat (optional)
    - something to write on (desk, table or clipboard)

  • Yes and no.
These are not a typical yoga class where you are only doing postures or breath work. We will be doing some movement and simple breath work but this is not an asana-heavy class.
The sessions are practice-centred and interactive. We’ll be doing a variety of practices that include movement, breathing, self-reflection, doodling/drawing/free writing, visualization and focusing.

  • Not at all. The practices we’ll be doing are accessible for beginners. The interactive nature of these sessions means that you’ll get to try a practice out and ask questions to help find adjustments that can work for you.

  • Somatic Experiencing is a psycho-biological tool, developed by Dr. Peter Levine, that helps to renegotiate the effects of trauma and other states of high stress. It’s a beautiful tool that works with the body to help us re-calibrate and learn to better regulate strong physiological and psychological responses like anxiety, fear etc…
Creative expression uses a variety of modalities to help us get out of our overactive “thinking mind” and into our inner knowing. You do not need to be an artist to do any of the practices we’ll be using.

  • The purpose of Yoga is to liberate man from the limits he has placed on himself.

    Swami Satyananda Saraswati

  • To seek happiness outside ourselves is like trying to lasso a cloud. Happiness is not a thing: it is a state of mind. It must be lived.

    Paramahamsa Yogananda

  • Put your heart, mind and soul into even the smallest things you do. This is the secret of success.

    Swami Sivananda

  • Yoga is a science of life, not of body.

About The Basics of Self Care (free online course)

“This course is packaged in a way that was extremely easy to incorporate into my existing day to day life. The practices are all short enough to practice regularly without needing to carve out too much time which can often be a deterrent for me, especially as time is rare with two young daughters. They are wonderful tools that have helped me increase the quality of my sleep, ease my anxiety and help me relax and center at anytime of the day. I loved the regular emails and found Yoga Tara's honest and open accounts of her own experiences were very useful and reassuring that everything I am feeling is normal. I have been lucky enough to practice with Yoga Tara in Nepal and I feel very thankful for the opportunity to continue to work with her through online courses such as this. I am looking forward to the next one!” - Melita L

Spirituality in every day life
“Yogatara is for me one of the wonderful teachers that offers classes that allow you to dive in deep. She has the ability to teach both beginners and advanced students, offering hints on how an easy asana can be challenging for old practitioners too. I love her yoga nidras at the end of the class in which I go deep into my innerself. She is the perfect mixture between totally grounded in life and deep spirituality.
