Finding the Steadiness Within (Session 4 of 4)

The world can feel increasingly uncertain these days. Whether it’s natural disasters, wars or social and political upheaval and uncertainty, these add on to the challenges and stress we may already have- or are experiencing.

In this 4 part series learn practices & perspectives to help you develop- and connect to the steadiness within you...and around you.

Drawing upon integral Yoga as inspired by the tradition of Satyananda Yoga, as well as the therapeutic tool of Somatic Experiencing, this series invites you to explore & develop simple practices and ritual to bring a sense of positive connection & steadiness into your daily life. Towards this end, we’ll use basic physical postures & breath work, guided meditation, mantra, self reflection, and simple creative exercises.

IN THESE SESSIONS YOU WILL:

  • identify & nurture your “resources” (what supports you on different levels)

  • learn how to use your body, breath & awareness to manage anxiety, overwhelm, and bring yourself back to center

  • build the confidence & a skill set to be more embodied and “take up your space”

  • be introduced to Yogic practices & perspectives beyond postures and breathing (Yoga Ecology, Bhakti Yoga, Mantra etc…)

  • find a supportive setting in which you can ask questions and explore what works best for you

SESSION 4: TAKING UP SPACE
Fear is an experience that contracts and makes us small. After looking at fear in Session 3, we explore ways to begin to “take up our space” and find steadiness in it. Often daunting, our system will tend to dance between contracting and expanding as it deepens in its steadiness. We will use asana, breathwork, mantra and simple creative exercises to help solidify and register our new sense of space.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • a clean, relatively quiet space for practice

  • a chair, mat and/or cushion

  • a notebook, blank paper, pens/coloured pens

  • comfy clothing you can move in

  • an open mind & heart

  • you, just as you are
