Deependra Prasad Joshi, Vedic Astrologer, was initiated into Yoga and Jyotish at the age of eight and has been actively practicing for much of his adult life, since 1995. The 27th generation of astrologers in his family lineage, he literally has astrology in his blood. After completing a B.A. in Economics and a Diploma in System Management, Deependra earned the title of Jyotish Visharad from the Indian Council of Astrological Sciences. For Deependra, astrology is a science in which mathematics meets metaphysics: an astrologer must have strong calculative abilities as well as sound intuition to offer the most accurate reading of a chart.
Deependra takes his craft to heart and is well respected for his accuracy, insight and judicious readings.
Deependra brings wise council and support to the Isha family. Technically the director of the Isha Center, a space of yogic and vedic sciences, he is in charge of all things “yogic/traditional”…while YogaTara (wo)mans the Isha Institute, the Isha branch of transpersonal education, counseling and training.
Deependra and YogaTara first met in Nepal in 1999. As colleagues and creative collaborators, they support one another, and those who come to them, on their path of growth and evolution with sincerity, mutual respect, friendship and good humor.
Sannyasi YogaTara Saraswati (Lisa Alessandra Gautschi) first arrived in Nepal in 1996 under the auspices of Johns Hopkins University to work in public health. What began as a well-planned career move turned into a spiritual journey she could not have imagined. In the Himalayan nation that would become her home, she turned from the hard science of biochemistry to the life sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda in her life long search for healing and spiritual growth.
YogaTara holds a B.A. in Biochemistry from Vassar College, a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Yogic Sciences (Yoga Therapy) from Bihar Yoga University (B.Y.U) in India, and a Masters in Transpersonal Psychology from Sofia University, in California. She is a certified practitioner of Somatic Experiencing (SEP), a psycho-biological tool developed by Dr. Peter Levine, that aims to renegotiate trauma and other stress-related disorders. Her academic pursuits combine with 20 years of immersion in the Nepali culture and the path of Yoga and sannyasa to bring insight and depth to her work. Bridging Eastern and Western traditions of holistic wellbeing and spiritual life, YogaTara offers seekers– novice and experienced–a space of rich exploration where intellect and intuition merge, where theory meets practice.
Founder and director of the Isha Institute, YogaTara works as a holistic psychotherapist, yoga therapist, consultant and educator. A freelance writer and adventurous explorer in all things creative, YogaTara leads spiritual retreats and journeys in places of the world that hold meaning and magic for her: Nepal, India, Tibet, Europe and the US.
Through the medium of the Isha Institute, YogaTara fulfills her calling to bring together experts and sages in the fields of the healing arts and wisdom traditions to offer trainings, workshops and retreats that are accessible, empowering, life enhancing and life changing.
